With nearly $6 billion in TVL distributed across more than twenty blockchains, Uniswap is the largest decentralized exchange platform. last October Uniswap has announced that it wants to launch its own layer-2 on Ethereum: Unichain. Now we’re learning more about its potential deployment date.
- Last October, Uniswap announced the launch of its own layer 2 on Ethereum, called Unichain, marking a historic step in optimizing its platform.
- Unichain is expected to launch on the mainnet in early 2025, with a proof-of-fault management system from day one and promises near-instant transactions with Flashblocks.
Unichain: layer 2 made in Uniswap
In November 2022, Ethereum updated its road map give aggregates at the heart of its scalability strategy. Two years later, the number of Layer 2s developing alongside Ethereum has reached new heights.
So everyone wants their layer-2. This will pass Coinbasewhich Base revealed in August 2023 or even the Kraken exchange that announced Ink.
Last October, Uniswap joined this Tier 2 race with the announcement of Unichain, its own aggregator developing in parallel with Ethereum.
Like Base or Ink, Unichain opted for Optimism Technology Stack. It’s called the OP Stack and it contains all the building blocks necessary to run L2 on Ethereum.
Additionally, it allows Unichain to benefit from the hype surrounding it The SuperChain Ecosystem of Optimism.
Unichain reveals its plan for the coming year
On December 20, just over two months after the initial announcements, Unichain revealed more details about its roadmap.
“Today we are sharing Unichain’s official roadmap for the public mainnet and beyond. And we also announce that Unichain will be operational on the first day with proof of unauthorized misconduct. »
First we learn that Unichain is expected to launch on the mainnet in early 2025. For now, the network is still actively tested on the Sepolia test network.
Additionally, we learn that Unichain will have a governance system for error proof (fault tolerant) once it is running on the main network. So on January 6th, the update will introduce these proofs to the testnets.
If their deployment goes smoothly, the Unichain teams will be able to move on to the next phase.
“Once the security and stability of the new system is verified, the mainnet will be open to everyone! Users will be able to transfer funds directly on the network and applications supporting Unichain will be launched. »
Once deployed on the mainnet, Unichain teams will continue their efforts to optimize the network and improve its performance.
So Unichain plans to test and then deploy Flashblocks, an approach that reduces block times to 250 milliseconds, which “gives the impression that transactions are instantaneous.”
The desire to run your own layer-2 is not trivial. In fact, L2s have become Uniswap’s largest market. In November the platform alone has seen volume of at least $38 billion on Ethereum L2.
